Education/Residency Programs

Welcome from the Vice-Chair for Education

jechambe.jpgWelcome!  The faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine have varied interests and are deeply committed to the three core missions of our department: clinical care, education, and research.  Our educational mission is directly informed by the rich and diverse research in our field and our department. Our faculty consists of leaders in a variety of areas including clinical research in Mood Disorders in adults, adolescents, and children, the genetics of Bipolar Disorder, clinical research in the recognition and treatment of Early Onset Psychotic Disorders, the genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease, translational and clinical research in Substance Abuse and Dual Diagnosis in adults, adolescents, and children, as well as clinical research in Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Fragile X Syndrome.

Our commitment to education is equally rich and varied.  Our faculty participate in all four years of the medical student curriculum. We have a four-year, ACGME-accredited residency in Psychiatry and various subspecialty Fellowships in Addiction, Child & Adolescent, and Geriatric Psychiatry. Together with the Department of Pediatrics, we also offer a Pediatrics/Psychiatry/Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (Triple Board) Residency Program.  In the field of psychology, the Department offers a one-year American Psychological Association-accredited Pre-doctoral Internship Program, a clinical Neuropsychology Residency program, as well as a clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. We have a highly active Continuing Medical Education program including several symposia that draw participants not only locally but nationally and internationally. All of our trainees work with experts in the field, learning to integrate clinical care with research, psychopharmacology with psychotherapy, and theory with practice.

We welcome all of those who attend our various educational offerings and we hope to learn from you as you learn from us.
