Resident Conferences

Grand Rounds

Weekly lectures from September through May are presented by nationally know Professors of Psychiatry and/or other disciplines and by members of the Indiana University faculty.  A wide range of clinical and research topics are presented in the lecture format followed by question and answer periods.

Weekly Didactics

Weekly classes meet on Friday morning from 8:30am-10:30 am. Over the course of two years, residents and faculty will cover a broad array of topics in child and adolescent psychiatry. There will be specific courses on child development and a continuing psychotherapy reading course. The textbook used for much of the two-year course will be the Lewis's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Monthly Journal Club Didactics

Articles from current journals are reviewed each week with a rotation of topics including child development, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology.  The resident picks the article and is joined by a faculty member for the presentation. We emphasize critical reading of the literature and an evidence based approach. Articles reviewed are frequently found in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry, The American Journal of Psychiatry, The American Journal of Psychiatry, The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology.

Annual Conferences

The child and adolescent psychiatry section sponsors two conferences each year. In December, the Annual Christian Sarkine Autism Treatment Center Conference features guest and departmental faculty reviewing recent advances in the care of children with autistic disorder. In February, the Arthur B. Richter Conference in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry occurs. There are two days of presentations by the Richter Professor, a nationally known child and adolescent psychiatrist or psychologist nominated yearly. The Richter professor is joined by other presenter from the department and community.
