Assistant Director, Residency Training
Director, Addictions Fellowship

Personal Statement  My academic career has centered around education -- for medical stduents, residents, clinical psychology inetrns, and all of the other disciplines required in our modern mental health system. My most rewarding research has been on medical student and resident attitudes toward psychiatric disorders, those who have these illnesses, their families, and those of us who treat these conditions. Psychiatry has so much to offer -- it's fun to learn and a very rewarding field in which to work -- and I try to demonstrate this reality in all that I do.
Education  Undergraduate: Indiana University

Medical School: Indiana University School of Medicine

Residency: Indiana University Hospitals

Board Certifications/Certifications:
Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
ECT through ACT
Forensic Medicine through ACFE
Current Academic Interests  Teaching: I am actively involved in clinical supervision of junior medical students during their psychiatry clerkship, as well as working with psychiatric residents on rotation, in didactics, and as the current Residency Training Director for both General and Addiction Psychiatry. I am also a consultant educator in an IUPUI undergraduate course on the biology of addictive disorders.

Clinical: I have an appointment as an Attending Psychiatrist at Larue D. Carter Memorial Hospital, caring for 28 medically and psychiatrically ill patients on long-term commitment. Their predominant diagnoses are schizophrenia and mood disorders such as bipolar, often with complicating addictive and personality disorders. Each requires a complex concoction of psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions.

Research: I am currently the PI on a study of a novel, non-dopamine-blocking compound for the treatment of schizophrenia. In addition, I continue to work on papers with residents and medical students exploring various psychiatric topics. I am also a co-investigator in Dr. Dennis Ang's R-21 NIH funded pilot study of combined cognitive behavioral therapy and duloxetine for patients with fibromyalgia.
