Statement

 

 
Thus far my career has been divided between the clinical care of individuals with all stages of psychotic illness, the development of novel therapeutics for psychotic spectrum disorders, and the education of psychiatry residents and medical students.  I am currently a sub-investigator on a variety of clinical trials investigating the pathophysiology and treatment of schizophrenia, with a focus on identifying the neural substrates of cognitive dysfunction.  I have developed an interest in the application of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for the treatment of schizophrenia, with focus on cognitive and negative symptoms, and have begun a pilot study looking at this exciting treatment in first-episode psychosis.

Teaching: I am currently involved in the direct supervision of psychiatry residents as well as medical students interested in a career in psychiatry.  I enjoy lecturing on schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders as well as the application of rTMS for various psychiatric illness.  I also enjoy giving talks to other medical professionals on and off campus.

Clinical: My clinical interests include the care of individuals with early and prolonged durations of psychosis.  I am an attending physician in two different clinical settings, the Prevention and Recovery Center for Early Psychosis (PARC) and the James W. Wright Center, both a part of the Midtown Community Mental Health Center.
 
Research: My interests include investigating the etiology schizophrenia through the use of a multi-modal neuroimaging approach as well as a number of novel therapeutic options for schizophrenia, as part of the Indiana University Psychotic Disorders Program (IUPDP).  I have recently started a pilot study of rTMS for cognitive dysfunction and negative symptoms in First-Episode Psychosis.
